She has a special interest in managing gastrointestinal symptoms of cancer and the side effects of treatment.

Meredy Birdy

Meredy Birdy

Dietitian & Nutritional Therapist

Meredy has been a cancer dietitian for over 20 years. When people are diagnosed with cancer, they may feel like they have lost control of their lives and their health. Over the years Meredy has seen the impact of cancer and its treatment on diet and nutrition. While there is a growing acknowledgement of the importance of nutritional optimisation on treatment effectiveness, there is a huge amount of conflicting dietary information out there and it can be hard to know what to believe or what is relevant in a particular situation. Meredy believes that dietary information aids can only go so far in helping people take control of their health. Many people need a one-to-one approach in order to integrate the latest nutritional advice into their diet while facing the challenges of symptoms from cancer and its treatment.

Jaclyn Cook

Jaclyn Cook

Exercise Specialist

Jaclyn is passionate about the benefits of physical activity and exercise as part of an integratedapproach to achieving sustainable health improvement and behaviour change. She believes in working collaboratively with a person to identify the best possible solutions for them, their personal needs and preferences. Her extensive clinical experience across various clinical and non-clinical populations has led to her develop an approach where she encourages her clients, even in the most difficult of circumstances, to think creatively to integrate movement and exercise into their daily lives. She believes that one size “does not” fit all, but that with support and education everyone, even those facing the challenges of cancer, can utilize exercise to improve their overall health.

Caroline Rodgers

Caroline Rodgers

Specialist nurse

Caroline has a wealth of knowledge and, as a senior nurse practitioner, has worked in oncology for many years. During this time she worked in a number of different clinical specialties including surgical oncology, chemotherapy and research. She uses her down to earth and empathetic manner, combined with a sense of confidence that only comes from experience, to guide and support people. She is able to provide reassurance, motivation and encouragement to people during difficult times. Caroline believes that when working with people it is vital that compassion, kindness and respect are at the foundations of care.

Maria

Maria

Lead Dietitian

Maria has diverse clinical experience. She is passionate about everything nutrition related and is on a mission to help people make positive lifestyle change in the most difficult of circumstances. She believes there is no quick fix to eating well – it is about improving habits and building a healthier relationship with food. Through her experience of working in cancer for many years she is adept at creating personal plans for people with a variety of symptoms. She does not believe in diet fads and instead keeps things simple and evidence-based. The secret to her success is her unrivalled ability to get to the nub of the issue and work alongside her clients for great results and long-lasting success.

Venetia Wynter-Blyth

Venetia Wynter-Blyth

Nurse and Co-founder

Venetia has been a cancer nurse for over 20 years and is on a mission to change the paradigm of cancer treatment. Onko is the culmination of these efforts wherever the focus is not on the cancer itself but the overall health, physical and emotional, of the person. In many ways Onko is a reflection of Venetia’s view of modern healthcare; it should combine the rigour and science of health improvement with the softer, but equally important, human elements of support, motivation and encouragement. She has been awarded multiple awards for this approach but her most valued are the ones awarded for patient-engagement.

May Nel

May Nel

Lead Physiotherapist

May has over 20 years’ experience as a physiotherapist. She has a warm, personal approach and a knack of always getting the best out of her clients. She quickly identifies where people’s physical difficulties lie, and how best to overcome them, using carefully crafted exercise programmes designed to make achieving goals both enjoyable and a way of life. Nothing gives her greater pride than seeing her client’s confidence grow as they progress through the programme. Her ‘whole person approach’ to the individual and their physical fitness is underpinned by her fascination of physiology in disease and ageing. She is never likely to admit it but there is very little May doesn’t know about exercise and cancer.

Krishna Moorthy Team Member

Krishna Moorthy

Surgeon and Co-Founder

As a cancer surgeon, Krishna knows only too well the impact cancer and cancer treatment has on people. He strongly believes that overall health optimisation before, during and after cancer treatment is as important as the latest cancer drugs and surgical techniques. He has seen for himself the benefits this approach has in improving people’s quality of life and overall survival in cancer.

Krishna uses his extensive clinical experience to advise on the development of programmes for people preparing and recovering from cancer surgery. Krishna brings the necessary scientific rigor to Onko’s health optimisation programmes.
